After graduating from Holy Child Academy in Sharon Hill, PA, she earned a Bachelor's Degree from Immaculata University and Master's Degrees from West Chester University and Villanova University.
Barbara dedicated many years to teaching in Roman Catholic schools in Philadelphia, where she also coached girls' basketball and volleyball. She later served as a school administrator in Williamsburg, VA, and then in Wilmington, DE. In 2013, Barbara retired for the third and final time, and moved to Rhode Island. She was a well-loved member of the Emmanuel Church community in Cumberland, where her wife serves as Rector. Barbara had a deep spiritual life and a wide circle of friends. She enjoyed sailing, quilting, hiking in Maine, visiting Disney World, and spending time with her Goddaughter, Inés. She was also a devoted dog lover, bug hater, and was convinced that Oreos are the perfect food.

Joan Testin; her sister, Judith Kowalski (Matthew); her nephew, Matthew Kowalski (Kelly); her nieces, Kristin Stokotelny (Ivan), Lorian Eck (Brad), Megan Morin (Alan), and Koren Giacobbe (Michael); and great-nieces Eva, Talia, Kiera, and Julia, and great-nephews Adrian, Will, Finley, and Aaron.
