LINCOLN - Anita (Alix) Coulombe Garvey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the HopeHealth Hospice Center, Providence. Anita was the beloved wife of the late Daniel J. Garvey, who passed in 2007, and previously the wife of Raynor Albert Coulombe, who passed in 1972.
Born in Pawtucket, Anita and her brother Rudolf, were the offspring of the late Joseph and Marguerite (Lanoue) Alix. Born in 1922, Anita was an outstanding student and graduated from Central Falls High School and attended Johnson & Wales University.
Anita was a civil service worker in clerical positions for the Veterans Administration, Providence, and for the U.S. Navy Equipment & Salvage Depot, Cumberland, during World War II. During the 80’s, she worked as the Director of the Chimney Hill housing complex in Cumberland.
She was a member of the Linus Project at the Lincoln Library, which was dedicated to making knitted blankets for hospitalized children. Anita was a longtime communicant of St. Jude Church, since 1947. She was a huge Red Sox, Celtics and Patriot’s fan, and in her younger days, Anita enjoyed bowling, golf, landscaping, painting and was a voracious reader.
Anita was the initial treasurer/fundraiser for the now historic Lower Lincoln Little League. She raised and kept account of the funds to start the league.
She is survived by three sons, Wayne Coulombe, and his companion Janet, of Newport, Roy Coulombe of Lincoln, and Kent Coulombe, and his wife Patricia, of Daytona Beach, FL along with one stepson, Joseph Garvey, and his wife Helen, of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10:00 am in St. Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Friends and family are welcome to attend the church service. Private burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Social distancing will be followed, and all guests will be required to wear a mask.
