Cumberland – Andre "Andy" E. Desmarais, 73, of Mendon Road, died Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Annette R. (Lussier) Desmarais. Mr. & Mrs. Desmarais had been married for forty-eight years at the time of her death on November 1, 2021. Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Edouard and Juliette (Lussier) Desmarais, he had lived in Albion for many years, before moving to Cumberland eight years ago.
A graduate of Bryant College, Andy's professional career was centered in accounting. He worked for various companies over the years before finally retiring from the Polytop Corporation. Beyond his career, Andy had a love for woodworking, a hobby he enjoyed with his wife. Together, they created countless handmade gifts that became treasured keepsakes for friends and family. Andy was a lover of all sports. He enjoyed watching professional teams like the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins, but took immense pride in supporting the Vegas Gold, his sons' Men's League team. He was a champion of all his children's and grandchildren's endeavors, especially when it came to sports and music. Andy was often in the crowd cheering them on. And, in his quieter moments, he enjoyed games of chance like slots, blackjack and poker.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his brother Clem Desmarais. He is survived by one daughter, Monique Desmarais (Thomas Anderson) of Lincoln; three sons, Marc Desmarais (Nicole) of Lincoln, Denis Desmarais (Kara) of Richlands, North Carolina, and Daniel Desmarais (Susan) of Norwood, Massachusetts; one sister, Jeanette Beaulieu of Smithfield; one brother, Gerard Desmarais of Chepachet and seven grandchildren: Dylan, Juliette, Lillian, Noah, Madeleine, Brayden, and Nathan.
His funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Saint Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion.
