Cumberland - Alfred H. “Al” Fontaine, 85, of Seneca Street, died Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (Doire) Fontaine, and the former husband of Joyce Fontaine.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Joseph and Edith (Blanchette) Fontaine, he had lived in Cumberland for the past fifty-two years.
Mr. Fontaine was the former owner of Hartley’s Pork Pies, Lincoln before retiring. Prior to that, he was a baker for the former Arnold’s Bakery, and a facilities manager for the former Pawtucket Savings & Trust.
Al was a volunteer firefighter for the Lonsdale Fire Department for many years. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a cook for many years. He loved golfing, softball, playing poker at Foxwoods and telling stories to his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Christine Tariela, and her husband Michael, of Dayville, Connecticut, and Nancy Breault, and her husband Eric, of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Charlene (Doire) Alves of Harrisville, Brenda Woods, and her husband Shawn, of Pascoag, Stephen Doire of San Diego, California, and Daniel Doire, and his wife Kelli, of Coventry; two brothers, Norman Fontaine and Roland Fontaine; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Debra Cullerton, and the brother of the late Russell Fontaine and Raymond Fontaine.
A private burial service will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Boulevard, Suite 3004, Warwick, R.I. 02886 would be appreciated.
