Lincoln – Robert E. Murphy, 87, of Lincoln passed away peacefully Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of Jean A. (Daines) Murphy.
Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Michael and Natalie (Peckham) Murphy, he had lived in Lincoln for the past 30 years.
Mr. Murphy was a sales representative for BASF, a chemical company before he went to work for Twin River in Lincoln for 28 years until his retirement.
He was a graduate of Providence College. He loved sports, especially golf, the New England Patriots, the Providence College Friars, and had a special talent for researching and handicapping sporting events including college basketball and Thoroughbred Racing’s Triple Crown.
Mr. Murphy was a true gentleman; his smile could light up a room. He was kind and loved to tell a good Irish joke, but most of all, he loved his family and was especially close to his grandchildren.
Mr. Murphy was a Korean War veteran and a member of the former VFW Post #2274 in Cumberland.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Kelli Murphy of North Carolina, Courtnay Simoes of Des Plaines, IL, and Robert E. Murphy, Jr. of Colorado; one stepdaughter, Kerri Rossi (Brian) of Cumberland; one stepson, Harold Stallwood, III of Santa Rosa, CA; one sister, Anne Conway of Taunton, MA; three brothers, Jeffrey Murphy of Cumberland, Michael Murphy of New Jersey and Frank Murphy of Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Jill and Jay Rossi of Cumberland, Brittany and Gabrielle Stallwood of Ft. Myers, FL, Angelo and Aldo Simoes, and Emily Dvois. He was the brother of the late Thomas Murphy.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Robert’s life with Calling Hours Monday, December 23, 2019 from 12:30-2 P.M. followed by his Memorial Service at 2 P.M. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
