Richard Bruno Obituary

Richard William Bruno, born November 2, 1937, of Lincoln, R.I., passed peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the age of 80, surrounded by his entire loving family.  Devoted husband for 57 years of Eliane J. Bruno.  Beloved father of Glenn R. Bruno and his wife Donna of Cumberland, R.I., Gary A. Bruno of Wellesley, MA, and Susan B. Levine and her husband Jonathan of Wellesley, MA.  Loving and proud grandfather “Pop-pop” of Braeden, Kyle and Ryan Levine.

Born in Providence, R.I., Richard was the son of the late Anthony William Bruno and Bertha (Handfield) Bruno.  He was one of six children and the only boy in the family.  He is survived by his sister Lorraine Uhrig of Austin, Texas, and by his sister Irene Moore of Houston, Texas.  He is the brother of the late Eleanor Schmidt, Marion Lunsmann, and Joyce Northrup.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Richard served from 1955-1959 and was called back in 1961-1963 for the Berlin Crisis, until he was honorably discharged.

In 1967, Richard founded R.W. Bruno Heating & Cooling.  Until his retirement in 2003, he served clients in the greater R.I. area and was well respected in his profession.  He built a successful business, which his son Glenn currently owns.

Richard had a dynamic, vibrant personality and lived every day to the absolute fullest.  He was gracious and was most happy when he was helping other people.  He made friends wherever he went.  An avid sailor, he loved sailing with his friends and spending time with his family on the ocean in Cape Cod and Kennebunkport, Maine.  He was also a devoted and affectionate animal lover, especially to all of his cats and to his daughter’s Australian Labradoodle, Cooper.  He was the biggest fan of all of his grandchildren’s basketball, soccer and other sporting and school events.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 9:00 am at St. Jude’s Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Following Mass, the family invites all to Kirkbrae Country Club to celebrate Richard’s life.  Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in honor of Richard’s memory to The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
