North Smithfield – Rene R. Lapierre, 75, of North Smithfield passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen C. (Kazan) Lapierre. Mr. and Mrs. Lapierre would have been married 46 years this coming May 23.

   Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Albert J. and Irene (Poisson) Lapierre, he had lived in Manville for 44 years before moving to North Smithfield this past June.

   Mr. Lapierre was a pharmacist at both the former Fogarty Memorial Hospital, North Smithfield and at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket for 41 years before retiring in 2001.

   He was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket and Northeastern University.

   A true Catholic gentleman, Mr. Lapierre was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Albion. Mr. Lapierre was regarded by all as a decent and kind man who was dedicated to his family and his community and was involved in several civic and charitable endeavors. He rang the bell for the old “Milk Fund”, was the treasurer of the Woonsocket North Stars, and was a strong supporter of a number of charities that assisted the less fortunate.

   He was a member of Lincoln Council #4006, Knights of Columbus, Lincoln. He served on the Lincoln Tenant Board and was elected to 2 terms on the Lincoln Water Commission serving for 6 years before stepping down last summer after moving to North Smithfield.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Kristen M. Jahnz and her husband, James, and Peter C. Lapierre, all of Lincoln; his beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Katie Jahnz, and Zachary Lapierre; his sister, Marguerite “Margie” Marcotte of Largo, FL; his brother, Roger “Rocky” Lapierre of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

   His funeral will be held Monday, April 24 at 8:30 A.M. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Manville.
