Cumberland – Raymond P. Sylvestre, 72, of Streamview Drive, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Marcia J. (Nolda) Sylvestre.  Mr. & Mrs. Sylvestre had been married for forty-four years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Omer J. and Francoise (Boisvert) Sylvestre, he had lived in Lincoln before moving to Cumberland two years ago.  He was the son-in-law of Jeannie Nolda of North Smithfield, and the late Charles Nolda.

A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, he worked as a manager for Johnson Brothers for thirty-five years, retiring in 2014.  He had previously worked as an Insurance Agent for Connecticut Mutual, as a manager for W.T. Grant, and as a Data Collector for A.C. Nielsen.

An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as a Sergeant First Class at Fort Benning and Fort Dix for twenty-four years.

He was a very active man, and enjoyed playing racquetball at Fore Court Racquet Club in Cumberland, dancing, cooking, swimming and going to the beach.  He was an avid skier, golfer and fisherman, and always looked forward to fishing on the Wood River on Opening Day with his buddies.  He was a member of the R.I. Canoe Association.  His favorite thing to do was to travel with his wife, going on cruises, visiting Niagara Falls every Columbus Day, and going on many, many trips.  He especially treasured the many hours spent with his family, whether it was a family outing or game night.   He loved to volunteer, serving Packmaster of Pack #1, Saylesville, and was responsible for the creation of Camp Conklin.  He also volunteered his time of the Lincoln High School Band.  He was a communicant of Saint Jude Church, Lincoln.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Matthew R. Sylvestre, and his wife Jennifer, of Lincoln, and Mark A. Sylvestre, and his wife Amy of Mechanicville, N.Y.; one sister, Doris Jacques, and her late husband Normand, of Westerly; one brother, Robert Sylvestre , and his wife Janice, of Westerly; and five cherished grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Rev. Ernest Sylvestre, OMI, and Richard Sylvestre; and brother-in-law of the late Elaine Sylvestre.

His funeral will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 8:45 a.m. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Friday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Parkinson’s Place, 65 Blackstone Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I. 02860 would be appreciated.
