Nathanael Bacon Obituary

Prudence Island – Nathanael C. Bacon, 78, of Prudence Island passed away peacefully Friday, October 26, 2018 at Newport Hospital, Newport. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Hutton) Bacon. Nate and Barbara were married for 36 years.

   Born in Providence, a son of the late William and Natalie (Chase) Bacon, Nate became a full-time resident of Prudence Island in 1972.

   Nate was a farmer and his family started Prudence Island Vineyards in 1972. He had previously worked at the Armour Meat Packing Company in Waterbury, CT and had also worked in the family bread baking business.

   He was a 1958 graduate of Woodbury (CT) High School and attended Brown University from 1958-60 until he was injured in a car accident in 1960.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepson, Raymond J. Masse, Jr (Ret. Pawtucket FD Captain) and his wife, Cheryl of Pawtucket; two brothers, Charles F. Bacon and his wife, Patricia of Castro Valley, CA and William Bacon, Jr. and his companion, Linda Wehnert of Madison, CT; five grandchildren, Margaret and Emily Masse of Bristol, Joseph Maloney of Portland, OR, Sean Maloney of Cranston, and Kathryn Maloney of Rock Hill, SC; two nephews and one niece, Nathanael Bacon and his wife, Jenny of Xela, Guatemala, and Daniel Bacon and his wife, Sacha, and Jennifer Dewindt and her husband, Michael, all of Alameda, CA; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Martha Bacon.

   A service for Nate will be held next summer on Prudence Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nate’s memory to the Prudence Island Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
