Lincoln - Louis “Big Lou” R. Lonardo, 84, of River Road, died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Dillon) Lonardo.
Born in Providence, son of the late Luigi and Linda (Boragini) Lonardo, he lived in Lincoln for forty-six years.
Mr. Lonardo was a heavy equipment engineer for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 57, and was the owner of L & J Excavation.
He enjoyed volunteering with Meeting Street School and the Special Olympics Rhode Island. He was an avid gardener and loved boating and fishing, especially in Cabo San Lucas. Big Lou was a proficient cook and realized great satisfaction preparing meals for his family.
He is survived by four daughters, Judy (Paul) Randall, Lynda Gorniewicz, Cheryl (Jennifer) Lonardo, Lori (David) Saudade; sister, Stella Larisa, three sisters-in-law, Kay Johnston, Carol Francisco, and Joanne Dillon; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Lois Audette, and the grandfather of the late Megan Audette and Brianna Gorniewicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Special Olympics Rhode Island, 370 George Washington Highway, Smithfield, R.I. 02917, or to Meeting Street School, 1000 Eddy Street, Providence, R.I. 02905 would be appreciated.
