Karen Hallaren Obituary

Frederick, Maryland – Karen A. (Fairing) Hallaren, RN, of Wainwright Court, died Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the home of her beloved aunt, Joyce Rourke, in Lincoln, R.I., surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of Joseph M. Hallaren.

Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of James Fearing of Andover, Massachusetts, and the late Hope (Daly) Fearing, and stepdaughter of Nancy Fearing, she had grown up in Andover, and moved to Maryland forty years ago, settling in Frederick in 2011.

Mrs. Hallaren was a registered nurse, working at Frederick Memorial Hospital, the Springfield State Psychiatric Hospital, as well as the Maryland School for the Deaf, before retiring five years ago.  She also volunteered in her free time at the ARC of Frederick County.

She enjoyed travelling to visit her family and going to the beach, and also enjoyed working in crafts.

Besides her husband and aunt, she is survived by one daughter, Kathleen M. Hallaren of Mount Airy, Maryland; one son, Joseph M. Hallaren II of Mount Airy, Maryland; and one grandson, Orion G. Gardner.  She was the mother of the late Kristen N. Maragni, and the sister of the late James Fearing.

A service will be held at a later date in Maryland.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Boulevard, Suite 3004, Warwick, R.I. 02886 would be appreciated.  Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
