Scituate – Joseph J. Spicola, Jr., 63, of North Scituate and formerly of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 28, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline A. (Martin) Spicola. Joe and Jackie had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph J. Spicola, Sr. and the late Jennie (Rossi) Spicola, he had lived in Lincoln for 28 years before moving to North Scituate just over 2 years ago.
Joe was an independent insurance agent who ran his own company, Spicola Insurance Agency in Smithfield, before working with the Maggiacomo Insurance Company, Providence for the past 7 years.
He was a 1973 graduate of LaSalle Academy and a 1977 graduate of Providence College.
Joe was the President of the Miss Rhode Island Pageant for 20 years. An avid golfer, he was a member both of Lincoln Country Club and Kirkbrae Country Club.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his two loving sons, Jeffrey M. Spicola of Avon, CT and Jonathan J. Spicola and his wife, Jenna of Pawtucket; his two brothers, John J. Spicola and his wife, Antonetta of Johnston and James M. Spicola and his wife, Josephine of North Scituate; his two beloved grandchildren (“the loves of his life”), Edward Joseph “E.J.” and Jennie Spicola; his brother-in-law, Christopher J. Martin and his wife, Tracey of Seekonk, MA; his in-laws, Bernard “Benny” Martin and his wife, Eleanor of Seekonk, MA, and Joan Martin and John Syman of North Scituate; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in-law of the late Michael J. Martin of Lincoln.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 10 A.M. in St. Cecilia’s Church of St. John Paul II Parish, 750 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
