Lincoln – Lt. John J. McLaughlin, Jr., PFD (ret.), 86, of Musket Road, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Bannon) McLaughlin.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late John J. and Marion (Tyler) McLaughlin, he had been a lifelong resident of Lincoln.
Mr. McLaughlin served on the Pawtucket Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1982. He was a member of the Pawtucket Firefighters, Local 1261, IAFF, the Teamsters, Local 251, the I.U.O.E., Local 57, the Pawtucket Firemen's Relief Association, American Legion Post #14, Cumberland, and the Cumberland Beagle Club. He was a communicant of St. Jude Church, Lincoln.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons, Asst. Chief John J. McLaughlin III, PFD, and his wife Paula, of Glocester; and State Fire Marshal Timothy P. McLaughlin, and his wife Heather, of Warwick; one granddaughter, Elsie Blue McLaughlin; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Claire Birchall.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 11, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Thursday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Private burial will be in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to R.I. Association of Fire Chiefs’ Honor Flight, PO Box 6041, Providence, RI 02940, or to the Disabled American Veterans of R.I., 360 Westminster Street, Providence, R.I. 02903 would be appreciated.
