Lincoln – Elsa (Farinelli) Loughlin, 90, formerly of Angell Road, died Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Briarcliffe Gardens, Johnston. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Loughlin.
Born in Waterbury, Conn., a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Vetrone) Farinelli, she had lived in Lincoln since 1968.
Mrs. Loughlin was a Fourth Grade Teacher and Reading Specialist at various elementary schools in the Town of Smithfield, before retiring. She was a graduate of Rhode Island College, where she earned her B. Ed. and M. Ed., and was a member of NEARI.
A devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner at St. Jude Church, Lincoln. She volunteered her time at the R.I. Wild Plant Society, Smithfield, enjoyed sewing and growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, and was an enormous Boston Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne M. Stephenson and her husband Scott D. Stephenson of North Stonington, Conn., her son, John J. Loughlin II and his wife Susan J. Loughlin of Tiverton; two granddaughters, Victoria S. Salibi of Tennessee and Carrie E. Loughlin of Tiverton; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Frances Lonardo, Angela Castaldi and Guarino Farinelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Sunday, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the Catholic Charity Appeal, c/o Diocese of Providence Office of Stewardship & Development, 1 Cathedral Square, Providence, R.I. 02903 would be appreciated.
