I had Mrs. Nightingale as a music teacher in middle school. She had such passion and enthusiasm for her music. I especially remember that she loved Christmas Carols. They made her joyous and made us love them as much as we
loved her! I’m sure she’s still singing!

Thank you, Mrs Nightingale, for working so hard to help us appreciate all genres of music and the talent and skills of musicians. Today I genuinely appreciate virtually all music (except country and reggae), and undoubtedly you had a major hand in that. RIP

My sincere condolences to the Nightingale and Corry family. Because God loves and cares for us, especially when we are going through the pain of loosing a loved one, he inspired words of comfort and hope. These words can be found in The Holy Scriptures. Psalm 34:18 reads: "Jehovah is close to the broken-hearted, he saves those who are crushed in spirit". Jesus said in John 5:28: "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". The wonderful hope of a resurrection and being able to see our loved ones again in the near future, can give us a great measure of consolation. Psalm 94:19 also reads: "When anxieties overwhelmed me, You comforted and soothed me". We pray that the God of all comfort and tender mercies soothe your hearts with his loving care during this very difficult and painful time.
Sincerely, Maggie Catalano/jw.org

Mrs. Nightingale was the most energetic of music teachers, and was a pleasure to sing for in class or in our Junior High musical theater club in the 1890s Music Hall Review and Oliver!, and several other productions. Many long night of rehearsal were spent with Doris trying to get the song and dance numbers just right. She was a joy to all who knew and worked with her, and she is missed.

Mrs. Nightingale, as I knew her, was my first introduction to the “middle school/ junior high” world. Along with that awakening grew a love of music based on the foundation of knowledge gained from her. She was passionate about her career long before it became fashionable to do so, and it was evident in her love for her students. I was fortunate enough to have her for both homeroom and music. I’m sure that Cindy Kippax Ripley and I gave her a few days where she questioned her sanity, and I wish I could tell her that we are still talking as much as ever....the educational world has lost a great member.

Mrs. Nightingale was my music teacher in Jr High School. She was a very warm and compassionate person and loved her subject (Music)! We were new to the town when I first had her as a teacher. Later I would see her or Dave walking by my house with her dog. Then I found that she lived a few houses away from my family. Both she and Dave were lovely people and good neighbors as well! May you rest in peace Mrs. Nightingale.

Doris was such an exemplary and passionate teacher. It was my good fortune to have been one of her students both in junior high and in high school as well as an honor to later work as her colleague. She was such a positive influence on so many people.

Dear Bob, Dottie, Jay and James, I am so sorry about the loss of Doris. Doris made such a difference in my life from a young girl who she took under her wing and taught me the love of music to a very dear friend in later years. She became more than just a cherished friend she became like a second mom to me. I cherish my weekly visits with her the past couple of years. It would make her so happy when I would bring my cat Simba along on my visits sometimes. It helps to know as much as I will miss her she is now united with her David.

From the time I was a student teacher at Lincoln Junior High in the fall of 1971 to my retirement from teaching in Lincoln in December of 2000, I could never forget the collegial professionalism shared by Doris with her other teacher contemporaries. They were great role models for incoming new teachers, and I am forever grateful for their devotion to their profession.

Hi Jim, I know how much Doris loved you and Jay. Doris became like a second mother to me and I love and miss her very much. In the past years since she has been at St. Antone I have visited her twice a week. I use to visit on Friday nights after work and feed her dinner and then we would go into her room and I would play music for her which she loved.. She may have forgotten who the people were who loved and cared for her but she never forgot her love for music. That Friday night before her death I stopped by to see her they were force feeding her and she was just looked so miserable. I brought her into the chapel and sat down next to her and told her she did not have to fight any more that I and the other people would be fine and that David was waiting for her. That Saturday night I prayed to God and David that my Christmas wish was she be with them. That Monday I found out from your mom that Doris had died. It has been very difficult for my to get over her death I think a lot has to do with not having closure and it has really hurt that your dad did not allow her to have the proper service that she deserved. I have had dinner a few times with your mom she seems like a wonderful lady but I can't help but have resentment towards your dad I know he is very ill but it is not about him it is about doing the right thing for Doris. I hope this email to you might help resolve things. You have three lovely children I would point out there pictures to Doris every time I visited.
