Dolores L. (LaPorte) Nazareth

Cumberland – Dolores LaPorte Nazareth, a longtime resident of Cumberland, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at her home.  She was 83 years old.

Born August 23, 1934 in Warwick, Dolores was the daughter of the late George and Ida (Gendreau) LaPorte.  She graduated from Classical High School, Providence, Class of 1951, and attended Pembroke College of Brown University, where she was a member of the Class of 1955.

Dolores was known for her intelligence, warmth, dedication to family and strong faith.  She had a very generous heart and an infectious laugh that endeared her to friends, both young and old.  She was an avid scholar of genealogy, and her profoundly loving nature and generous spirit extended far beyond the reaches of her immediate family.  She created a warm and inviting home where all were welcome and well fed.

Her warmth could be felt strongly by her family and friends, and she held a special place in her heart for the developmentally disabled community.  Dolores was recognized by the RIARC and the Rhode Island Senate for her advocacy and giving nature for the developmentally disabled.

She is survived by the love of her life, George R. Nazareth, a friend of her brother whom she met in Warwick when she was twelve years old.  Their sixty-two year marriage set a standard to which her children and grandchildren aspire.  Dolores is also survived by her children, Annette Nazareth of Washington, D.C., Cynthia Nazareth Minor of Newtown, Connecticut, Stephen E. Nazareth of Warwick, and Linda Nazareth of Cumberland; eight grandchildren, Roger and Caroline Ferguson, Sarah, Stephanie and Andrea Minor, Christopher and Matthew Nazareth, and Arielle Nazareth Barber; one great-grandchild, Roland Barber, and her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Donald A. and Lou-Ann LaPorte of Warwick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.  In celebration of Dolores’ life, and to continue her legacy of love and graciousness, the family asks in lieu of flowers, to please take a moment to do a kind act for someone else.
