David A. Despres, Jr.

Pawtucket – David A. Despres, Jr., was called home Tuesday, May 22, 2018 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Rita A. (Lopez) Cavanaugh-Despres.

   Born in Providence, a son of the late David A. and Flora (McIntosh) Despres, he had lived in Pawtucket for the past 33 years.

   David was a steamfitter for many years and a member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union, Local #51, and later worked in HVAC at Miriam Hospital, Providence for 21 years before retiring in 2010.

   He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Active in his faith and church, he was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Pawtucket, and served the needs of his community. He loved to entertain, cook and cheer for the Red Sox.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by his eight loving children, Patricia Soares and her husband, Joseph of Tampa, FL, Laura Escobar and her husband, Beto of San Antonio, TX, Susan Bishop and her husband, Michael of Warwick, Catherine Cavanaugh of Pawtucket, Janis Affonso and her husband, George of Plymouth, MA, Beth Handrigan and her husband, Brian of Wildwood, MO, Michelle Despres-Dunagan of Greenland, NH and Michael Despres of Canton, OH; his three sisters, Florence Reynolds of Warwick, Gladys Duffy of Exeter and Eileen Entwistle of Florida; his brother, Normand Despres of Albuquerque, NM; his fifteen beloved grandchildren, his three beloved great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and countless family members and friends.

   His Requiem Eucharist will be held Saturday, May 26 at 12 Noon in St. Paul’s Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket. His burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
