Lincoln – Armand L. Champagne, 89, formerly of Albion, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of the late Eveline M. (Provencher) Champagne.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Armand J. and Eva (Desmarais) Champagne, he had lived in Cumberland for many years, before moving to Florida, and returning to Lincoln five years ago.
Mr. Champagne worked as a millwright and inspector at Corning Glassworks, as a maintenance worker for the Town of Cumberland; as an associate for Benny’s Stores; and as a maintenance worker at Blessed Sacrament Church in Clermont, Florida, before retiring.
He was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as Troop Leader for Troop #50, Cumberland, and as District Commissioner for Narraganset Council, BSA. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Central Falls.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter, Anne M. Diggle, and her husband Cliff, of Cumberland; two sons, Michael Champagne, and his wife Carol, of Kenner, Louisiana, and David Champagne, and his wife Cheryl, of West Deptford, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Katelyn, Victoria, Rebecca, Rachel, Madison and Amanda; and four great grandchildren, Amber Lynn, Autumn, McKenna, Lorelai. He was the brother of the late Rita Champagne and Etta Gallant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Historic Saint Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Sunday, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Narragansett Council, BSA, P. O. Box 14777, East Providence, R.I. 02914 would be appreciated.
