Pawtucket – Virginia R. Spingler, 95, formerly of Foster and Pawtucket, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol.
Born in Camden, N.J., a daughter of the late Herman and Vera (Boettner) Spingler, she had lived in Foster and Providence, before moving to Pawtucket in 1966.
Miss Spingler worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Rhode Island Hospital, and then did Medical Transcription at Miriam Hospital, retiring in 1966.
She served with honor and distinction in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corps W.A.V.E. during World War II and the Korean War.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Pawtucket, where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by one niece, Dawn Chopp of Illinois; and four nephews, Richard Hall of Greenville, Darus Spingler of Illinois, Dennis Spingler of Wisconsin, and David McNiff of Kentucky. She was the sister of the late Betty Rush, Herman Spingler, Jr., and William Spingler.
Her funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the Bethany Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 178 Sayles Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I. 02860 would be appreciated.
