Lakeland, Florida– Richard Eugene Plante, 75, of Lakeland, Florida, and formerly of Woonsocket and Manville, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 surrounded by his devoted family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Claudette (Vandemoortele) Plante. They were married for 26 years.

Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Romeo and Germaine (Bouchard) Plante, he had lived in Manville for most of his life before moving to Lakeland, Florida 20 years ago.

Richard was a 1961 graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy and served honorably in the US Air Force from 1961-64. Following his military service, he was employed by General Motors in Framingham, Massachusetts until his retirement.

Richard enjoyed his sports, the Patriots, the Red Sox, hockey, golfing, camping, and traveling to visit family and friends near and far.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons, David Plante and his wife, Tina of Burlington, Vermont, and Daniel Plante and his wife, Mary of Franklin, Massachusetts; his two beloved grandchildren; Alexandria and James Plante; and his two grand puppies, Fenway and Piche that he cherished. He also leaves one brother, Eugene Plante and his wife, Sue of Davenport, Florida; and many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as his many, many friends.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 14 at 11 A.M. in Saint James Church, 33 Division Street, Manville. Burial, with military honors, will be in Saint James Cemetery, Manville.

Relatives and friends are invited and may greet the family Friday from 10:15 A.M. at Saint James Church.
