Lincoln – Dorothy “Dottie” M. McCreadie, 94, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond McCreadie.

Born in Saylesville, a daughter of the late James W. and Beatrice (Crompton) Webster, she had lived most of her life in Lincoln.

Mrs. McCreadie was the first woman to be licensed as an auto mechanic in the State of Rhode Island, and was co-owner, with her late husband, of the former McCreadie’s Garage, Lincoln.  She had also worked for the former New England Telephone Co., Pawtucket.

During World War II, she was a volunteer driving ambulances for the Red Cross.  She was a member of the Fairlawn-Lincoln Fireman’s Auxillary, and was a graduate of Kenyon’s Business School.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy M. Renaud, and her husband Leo, of Conway, South Carolina; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.  She was the sister of the late Barbara Webster Green.

Her funeral service will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call prior to the service from 4:00 -7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the Saylesville Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1, Lincoln, R.I. 02865, or the RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, R.I. 02915 would be appreciated.
