North Providence – Antonio F. Garcia, 65, of Julia Drive, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.  He was the beloved husband of Rita M. (Ferreira) Garcia.  Mr. & Mrs. Garcia had been married for forty-one years.

Born in Terceira, the Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel Da Rocha Garcia and Guilermina (Martins) Garcia, he moved to the United States in 1976, settling in Pawtucket, where he lived until moving to North Providence thirteen years ago.  While living in Portugal, he served as a Captain in the Portuguese Army during the Carnation Revolution of 1974.

Mr. Garcia was the former owner of Lusitania Bakery, Pawtucket Fish Market and Garcia & Sons Cleaning, and was the Chief Operating Officer of Mello Cleaning, before retiring in 2016.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church, Pawtucket, where he was a member and Past President of the Holy Spirit Society.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joao-Manuel Garcia, and his wife Maria, of Smithfield, and Lazaro Garcia of Stoneham, Mass.; two sisters, Iria Fraga, and her husband Joao, and Elsa Leonardes, and her husband Manuel, both of Terceira; and several nieces and nephews.  He was the caregiver of Manuel Ferreira of North Providence.

His funeral will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, c/o MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114, or to St. Anthony Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I. 02860 would be appreciated.
