Pawtucket – Amelia (Chito) Olney, 92, of Finch Avenue, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Philip Hulitar In-Patient Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Clifford N. Olney, Sr.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late John and Caroline (Ferriera) Chito, she had lived in Pawtucket and Glocester for many years.
Mrs. Olney worked as a bookkeeper for various firms, including the office of Drs. Rubinstein & Ducoff, and the former Providence-Newport Beverage Co., before retiring.
She was an avid swimmer, and a former member of the Smithfield YMCA, where she was a member of their 100 Mile Club in swimming. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family.
Mrs. Olney’s family would like to thank the many special people at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion during her final days.
She is survived by one daughter, Debra R. Haining, and her husband Bruce, of Pawtucket; one son, David J. Olney, and his wife Denise Chakoian, of Providence; two sisters, Alice Walsh and Rose Rizzo, both of Lincoln; one brother, Charles Chito of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Aubrey Olney, Brandon Olney, and his wife Sovanna Phav, Emily Haining-Sheehan, and her husband Jeff Sheehan, and Sierra Olney, and her fiancé Scott Van der Linden; and three great grandchildren, Madison and Alexandra Olney, and Jaylen Diaz. She was the mother of the late Clifford N. Olney, Jr., and the sister of the late Anthony Gomes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1081 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Private burial will take place in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of R.I., 1085 North Main Street, Providence, R.I. 02904 would be appreciated.
